How to Reset your EDGAR Passphrase

Starting in 2025, all SEC filers must enroll in EDGAR Next. But what if you don’t remember your passphrase — or no longer have access to the email address listed on your EDGAR account?

Here’s exactly how to reset your EDGAR passphrase and what to do if your EDGAR Point of Contact (POC) email address needs updating.

TL;DR

  • You can reset your passphrase on the EDGAR Filer Management website using Login.gov.

  • A security token will be sent to the EDGAR POC email address on file.

  • If that email address is outdated, it can be updated with the appropriate authorization.

  • Once EDGAR Next enrollment is complete, passphrases will no longer be used.


Step-by-Step: How to Reset Your Passphrase

  1. Go to the EDGAR Filer Management website.

  2. Log in with your Login.gov credentials.

  3. Select Enroll in EDGAR Next, then choose Passphrase Reset.

  4. In the pop-up window, click Request a passphrase reset token.

  5. Enter your CIK number and a reason for the request (e.g., “Forgot my passphrase”).

  6. Click Request Token.

Within a few minutes, a security token will be sent to the EDGAR POC email address on file for that CIK.

  1. Go back to the Passphrase Reset window and click Reset Passphrase.

  2. Manually enter:

    • The CIK

    • The security token from the email

    • A new passphrase (must be exactly 8 characters, including:

      • One number

      • One letter

      • One special character: @, #, $, or *)

  3. Confirm the new passphrase and submit.

Important: Save your new passphrase securely. You'll need it to complete EDGAR Next enrollment.

What If You Don’t Have Access to the EDGAR POC Email?

If your company can’t access the EDGAR Point of Contact email address (e.g., an employee left or the address is no longer valid), you can request to have it updated.

Do I Still Need My Passphrase After Enrolling in EDGAR Next?

No. Once your account is fully enrolled in EDGAR Next, the passphrase is no longer used. You'll access everything using your Login.gov credentials and new system permissions.
